If you have never carried before I would suggest that you experiment with a few inexpensive options before you decide what might be best for you and invest in a good rig.

In my experience, about half of all people simply cannot tolerate IWB-style carry for extended periods of time. The bulk of a holstered pistol stuffed inside the waistband is more than many of us can stand. Before investing in a top-drawer IWB holster I suggest that you try one or two bargain rigs to see if you are in that half of the population that can't stand it.

Appendix carry position can also be a problem, particularly if you are regularly driving, sitting at a desk or work station, getting into or out of a vehicle, whatever.

My point here is that you seem to have started your search with preconceived ideas that may not work out well for your needs.

I am a 20 year AIWB carrier and an unabashed fan, but totally agree with Lobo. AIWB has many tactical strengths - balanced by the need for deliberate safety and careful consideration.

About five years ago, I was considering a mini red dot sight on my auto, to be carried AIWB. I mocked up a model with an airsoft gun and tried it around the house and in my truck for six weeks, looking for problems. Totally second Lobo’s recommendation to experiment a bit.

With a four inch barrel, that is more length than comfortable with my body shape. Much over 3.5”, the barrel jabs into my femoral artery based on my natural waist. However, too short a holster will lever out, pivoting on the belt line... I am a sample of one, so it is truly a personal issue.

Also, try a few belts. My belief is AIWB benefits from medium Stiffness belt. I wore and appreciated a stiff police duty belt for strongside carry. That is not what is needed when tucked up against the body. Try at least a few belts thicker than a skimpy Dress belt.

And finally- practice a lot. Once you got a workable solution, do 200 draws (unloaded!). I know I got humbled pretty regular when I get inside a vehicle and do 50 reps. The difference in draw mechanics between my wife’s car and my truck is mind boggling.
