Need a little insight from the Barami Hip-Grip guys...

I went to the local gun show yesterday and found some slightly used Barami Hip-Grips for my Model 19 - 2.5 "...I've got some IWB holsters, but thought I'd try the Hip-Grips out...The fit was great and they feel good on quality gun belt....

BUT...it sure feels weird with that bare metal and exposed trigger in my drawers...

Question: Will I get used to the feel of the Hip-Grips and how safe do you guys feel with this style of CCW?...

A warning for those who carry in Ohio:

You can use this or the "clip grip" all day long as long as you're not in a vehicle. Once you get into a vehicle, if your gun's on your body, it needs to be in a holster.

I use the barami on a model 60 all day everyday. You will get used to it. Its the best method i have ever used and certinly dont feel unsafe.

I have one on my 642 as well as my 65. I don't feel unsafe with them. Just keep my finger off the trigger until I'm ready to fire. It is the most comfortable way to carry that I have found and it is very fast for me. To be honest when I was looking for another revolver and my decision was between an SP101 and the 65, I chose the 65 partly because I couldn't get a Barami for the SP101.

I'm thinking that you'll likely rust that nice blued gun pretty bad carrying IWB without a holster in Texas, especially during the summer. My guess in that while guns with fixed sights might be comfortable, that adjustable rear sight will be pretty irritating. What do you Barami carriers think? Just conjecture on my part. I have no experience with the things.

They are plenty safe, but you will have rust to deal with at the end of a hot day from carrying that blued gun against your sweaty bod.

It is surprising how quickly it can form.

I would definitly get a stainless or hard chromed gun. My 60 has been great, but the hammer gets me once in a while. I purchased a 642 for the battle axe, and with its lightweight frame and hammerless design...its awsome! I do clean the gun more often since i dont use a holster. Gun gets more junk in it.

A good point! Both my 642 and 65 have fixed sights and neither is blued. I would be hesitant of carrying in this fashion if I were carrying a blued gun.

I carry mine differently, and don't have that problem. Instead of putting it against your body, put it between your belt and the outside of your pants. Very confortable that way.

This thread reminds me of when first started carrying. It was my Taurus 605 carried appendix IWB. The hammer spur drove me nuts. I ground the b$&%^*d off and never looked back. The thing was like a paper cut. It was a miserable low level irritating thing that just wouldn't go away (until it met a disc sander).

I agree. I've carried a 642 with Baramis quite a bit, but don't use them for blued guns. My sweat can rust titanium, I think.

Also, while everyone has different levels of tolerance, I find that K-frames are just a tad too big for me to get used to without a holster. Funny, since I can carry N-frames in an IWB holster just fine, but while a K is much thinner, the sharp spots just stick out too much without a holster. Like I said, everybody is different...

Hip grips are great on the 640 since it has the "trough" sights, it's stainless, and has no exposed hammer. I've been carrying one off and on for 6 or 7 years. The only negative I find is the little bit of pain when shooting full power .357 mags! Ouch! But probably not noticeable in a defensive situation. I think it would be great to build up a somewhat larger diameter grip (boot?) with the belt/pant loop thingy on the right side like the Barami grip. I also appreciate where that belt clip puts my trigger finger on the trigger. I've got a little longer fingers than average and it helps me "back up" a little. Just my $.02 worth.

I have two carry guns with Hip Grips.
Both Stainless, both have had their hammers bobbed. I feel very comfortable and safe with either.

The question of rust is a personal matter, my sweat causes stainless guns to rust. The hammer spur is certainly an issue. All of my DA revolvers have bobbed hammers. But, I really like my Hip Grip.
