Hello DeanD and the rest of you. Been lurking for a while. Decided to join and send this first reply because I had a very similar question as DeanD. I have a 625-2 with a 5" barrel and it took me a while to find and decide on a holster for it.
To answer the OP's question directly, I presume my 5" N-frame is the same as yours, even though the cylinder may be slightly larger. I found 1 nylon holster from Craft and 1 cordura holster from Vega which might work for you. The former has an open bottom, so it will fit any length barrel. It also has a thumb break, but it not "molded". It sells for $25.95.
My notes on the Vega holster is that it is a cordura belt holster. Don't have much else, so I don't believe it was very appealing.
You can Google Craft Holsters or Vega Holsters and it will direct you to their websites or to retailers.
Uncle Mike's has generic nylon holsters. If memory serves correct, the #18 fits a large revolver with a 5" - 5.5" barrel. I have not found a #18 on the store shelves and did not try to order one from the company. I was actually looking for an economical leather holster.
I know you do not want a leather holster, but for any others reading this thread, I found some ranging in cost from $45 - $125. They are Safariland 5187, Galco Silhouette & Phoenix and, Falco Comfortable and Quick Draw. Safariland's website provides that the 5187 does not fit a 5" N-frame. However, if you read MidwayUSA's listing for the Safariland holster, there are 3 reviews, 2 of which specifically say they use it for a Model 625. Mine is on backorder and was actually on sale.
I received suggestions from another forum to try Simply Rugged, El Paso Leather (it may or may not be out of business), Blackhills Leather, Blackhawk, Tom Threeperson's and a few others. I did not find that any of these specifically fit a 5" N-frame.
Hope this helps. Since I am now a member, I no longer have to lurk in the dark.
