I already have a Galco Phoenix but that’s my camping/hiking holster. I want something that will work under a jacket with a lower profile during the colder seasons. Recommendations appreciated.

suggestion, DEVOR has holsters on sale that started this morning. usually a good deal, but there is a shipping fee, still $9.

Kramer can build you a nice scabbard for a 4' N frame. This was made for a Highway Patrolman, but it also fits a 629 Mountain Revolver.

Gunners Alley carries both MTR Custom Leather and Don Hume holsters for the S&W N frame 4-inch revolvers. I own holsters from both vendors, and have found them to be high quality at a nice price.

Seeing the holster is for winter use hopefully it will be delivered in six months. Another option is placing a want ad on S&W or check Ebay and receive the holster in a week.

My model 28-2 rides in a Kramer just like the one pictured above....fantastic holster!!!

I also have the Kramer as pictured above and would call it a good general carry holster, but on my frame (5’9” 180) the DeSantis speed scabbard above (or similar) would be better for concealment. The Kramer would be lower profile under a coat than a field holster.

The problem with most holsters is they allow the hammer to dig into one's side. Not a good thing.

Bullard Leather offers their Bodyguard series that prevents that. It also keeps sweat off of the gun, a good thing.

I've got 5-6 Bullard holsters & they're all priced much, much lower than their quality. I go with their lining option, so as to protect a blued finish. They're also about 1/2 to 2/3 cheaper than the major brands. Better price + excellent quality = smart purchase, IMO.

A couple come to mind to tote a 4" N OWB somewhat discretely. A Simply Rugged Sourdough Pancake looks bulky (it's not), however when worn with a pistol it "simply" works. Belt slots are cut to balance gun weight well, and pull gun butt nicely into the body. Top of the holster leather protects the hammer and sights and keep both away from wearer and ones clothing. Grip is well exposed for a smooth, quick gun presentation. Gun, including sights, is well protected from dings of daily life.

Another option, if you want to be a little retro, is an original Roy Baker Pancake holster. Yes, it does expose the trigger, which is not "modern". Should do fine in concealed carry mode.

I've got a Galco Combat Master model CM126 in which I carry my 4" 625-8 N Frame under a dark colored tee shirt and it offers adequate concealment.

It will definitely serve you well under a jacket.
