I have the option to buy ONE smith revolver. My choices are a 586 no dash, no M, 6" bbl. with a nickel finish. The other is a Model 28-2, 6" bbl. Both are in very good condition and shoot well. Like I said I can only buy one,(he will only sell one). So my problem is which one should I buy, they both are the same price.

What a dilemma :). You mentioned they both shoot well, so you should opt for the one that felt best to you. For me, it would be the 586; N frames handle too big, if that makes sense.

I'd buy the 28-2. I like old N-frames, too.

I really like the looks and feel of the 586, but there is something about the 28 that tells me that I have to have it.

I agree, get the one that feels best to you. For me it would be the Mod 28 because it would fit all the holsters I have for my 44 Mag and 45 ACP/Auto Rim revolvers.

Either one would make a great 357 Mag.

you said same money...... the 28 just in case you change your mind its worth more, and it sounds like you might......jebe

If they are in the same shape and price I would get the 28.I have a 28 and a 686-1the 28 is more accurate. It is a little heavy but the wieght helps to absorbs the recoil.Get the 28 you can pick up a 586 latter. The 28s are going up in value so buy cheap and enjoy!

Having owned both, I would go with the 28. I sold my 586 and 686, but I still have my 28-2. It will be one of the guns that get passed on. It's just a better 357 magnum revolver !

well after reading your posts and alot of thinking i got the 28-2. thank you for your input; it was tough to decide
