HI
I want to get an excellent 22. target handgun and I am looking at a brand new Model 17 Masterpiece with 6 inch barrel for $850.

Or should I keep looking for a used model 41 and take my chances with a used gun?

I have had a beat up Ruger Mark I for fifteen years and it is time to get something nicer in both looks and capability. I'm not getting any younger.

I figure both of the guns I mention will be better than I am. No problem. Is the Model 17 Masterpiece a great target pistol or should I pass on this new revolver? I could keep looking for a model 41 but I am hesitant to buy a used gun online.

Thoughts appreciated. JGC

Either one is a great gun. I see it as do you want a revolver or auto?

Buying online gives you many options.Ask for clear photos and if you have doubts, ask questions. If you still have doubts, don't bid.And pay the 3% and use a credit card if you buy.It gives you leverage.

M-41

I have both, and the M-41 is the best and last pistol I would let go.

I feel sorry for the target- it doesn`t stand a chance against the m-41.Mine has a burris fast fire sight on it.

I`m not taking anything away from the m-17/or m-18 Just the trigger and quickness of follow up shots, plus the really neat take-down of the 41is so cool.

The 17`s and other variants of it are pretty available. The M41 `s not so much. I`d say get the 41 first save your money and get the wheel gun later.

The Mod 41 is a fantastically accurate handgun, and made for competition. The Mod 17 is/can be just as accurate, but the follow up shots for competition shooting Timed and Rapid fire match's is more difficult. If your use is strictly plinking and informal use, buy either, if you are interested in NRA competition, the Mod 41 will serve you better.

Thanks all.

I won't be competing but I will keep an eye out for a Model 41. My local gun dealer smiled and told me I would not likely find one at a gun show around here, so I will keep up with the online search and eventually settle on one.

I see they still make them, but I called the factory and they told me at least a ten month wait!! Wow.

Thanks again
