Need Advice on which Existing Hangun would make the Best "Trail Gun"

I've never had trouble from the bears and lions around here other than being followed.I do carry a 45 when hiking or fishing in moose country though.

I would rule out a 9mm, even for a smallish black bear since they have thick hides. I would hesitate to say a .357 would be ok, but in theory it would. Personally, I would choose either a Glock 10mm (not sure what models?) or a .44 magnum. Just my $0.2 after reading lots of bear articles, comparing ballistics, and Zoology classes
