Need box info

Hey y'all
I am trying to find out what the box for a pre model 40 would look like. Does it have the paper label on one end? If so, what would be in the model designation? Would this have been one of the boxes with a solid stripe around the top? Thanks in advance, John

I think it would be a red box like this or a starburst box

Hey John, you might be surprised at how much info you can get around here. If you don't mind telling us the serial # range, someone here might have one near yours with the original box.... I'm just not sure how long the red boxes were used for the Centennials.

The serial number is 93556.
Also, in front of the serial number is a cartouche. I cannot make out what it is. The dealer I got it from said it was something Smith & wesson stamped on it because it had been sent back to the factory for a rebuild.
If anyone has a box that they are interested in selling, I would definitely be interested (if I don't have to mortage my house. Thanks again!
