Hello All:
Does anyone know if I could send my gun back to the factory or where ever to get the Gold accent touched up. I have a 625-4 Springfield Armory commerative, 45 ACP 4"inch Mountain Gun. On the inspection plate is an anniversary Springfield symbol of the crossed cannon & flaming bomb in Gold. The weapon is new and unfired condition, however I made the mistake of polishing the stainless steel. In that process I got to close to the Gold and rubbed most of the color off - I know stupid thing to do. I wrote about it in an earlier thread but I'm now going to try and add a pic. Thanks for any help. Joe

Joe, nothing that extreme. There is a product called Bonanza Gold that Brownells sells that paints on and allows you to wipe off the excess[IIRC]. You can also use gold paint from any hardware store. The gold you polished wasn't gold in the pure sense, but was a gold paint as described above. As time goes by,you will need to touch up the accents but it is fast, easy, and cheap to do,especially since you don't have to ship your piece. BTW; I would love to find one like yours either with or without the SA Armory Seal, but they are hard to come by. Regards, Nick

what smokeys said is pretty right on, we've used just gold paint from the hobby shop and take the small paint brush and 'cut" the bristles off for the most part, just leave very short, stubby ones and just 'dab" at it, will blend in just fine.....allow it to dry, before you even "think" about touching it;)

Thanks

Thanks guys:
The info is very helpful. I guess I was lucky smokey04 when I bought this from my local gun dealer in '96. He said it had been sitting in his shop for over a year and was glad to sell it. I've been told it's the only model mountain gun with a pin hammer in 45ACP ever made. Once again thanks alot you guys! Joe (Whitey) Smith

Joe,Joe, Now you confused me. Are you talking about the firing pin in the hammer? If so, both my 45 Colt and 44 Mag mountain guns have them. If you're talking about the pinned barrel, well that is something else entirely. Nick
