I usually replace the MIM hammers and triggers on my modern revolvers with stainless or polished parts. I bought a NOS hammer for my 617-6 that was sold as "NOS S&W K frame Target Rimfire Hammer - New Model". It fits and moves perfectly everywhere except where it's seer interacts with the trigger.
The seer has a sharper tip that sticks out slightly father than on a MIM hammer (see pic below). When I work the action this seer stays pushed-in by the little trigger hook, instead of the hook going under the seer. I tried 3 different K frame triggers and none work with this hammer. I'm thinking of filing the seer tip to round it like the MIM hammer it is to replace, but... I don't want to ruin a beautiful Target Hammer.
Can anyone tell me what this hammer is for? Is it really a K frame Rimfire Trigger?
