I am not a gun smith by any stretch but need step by step (simple please) instructions on how to remove my internal lock on this gun. I tried it but when I took off the side plate( I think its the hammer lock piece was loose and I could not pull the trigger. Got scared and put the gun back together. I had no trouble with the j frame model 642,but this spring is different and I didn't want to take a chance on messing up something without help.( All and any help would be greatly appreciated)
Thank you

There's a good explaination with some photos of the locking mechanism and how to remove and replace, etc. The "sticky" is located at the top of the page in the "FAQ" section under the "S&W-Smithing" heading.

It is not that hard to accomplish. There is also a decent video on YouTube, which makes it clear.
Get yourself "The Plug" while you're at it.

This is one of the easiest videos to follow. It's a internal hammer but everything else is the same. Nice relaxing music also, don't fall asleep!:D You will have a hammer block that will fall out but it's easy to lay it back in.
