One of the few pistols my wife has ever strongly urged me to buy, this 15-3 is a four inch blued revolver w/ standard trigger and hammer. It is not a beauty queen but rather a working revolver. I've had it since 2016. Recently noted the single-action has got weird. Barely touch it and the hammer drops. Also has push-off though not always. Correct fix? Replace hammer/trigger? Hammer only? Possibly a spring problem? Sincerely. bruce.

I Apologize to everyone. I was dead on my feet when I got home. Should not have been doing anything but getting some sleep. The revolver is a 19-3. The serial number is 7K81046.

-Check the main spring screw in the front part of the grip frame. If it has loosened or back out that could also cause what you're describing. Don't ask how I know.lol

Just wondering, is it a 19 or a 15? I guess answers/suggestions would be the same either way, but....

Checked strain screw. One quarter turn loose. Tightened. Still has hammer push off and single-action is extremely light.

Revolver is definitely a K-frame Model 19-3, Model number is 19-3, serial number 7K81046. Where can one find the date of manufacturer?

Also noted that the rear sight has been dinged on the right side. How does one replace the rear sight blade? Sincerely. bruce.

Sounds like the SA sear parts have worn.

It happens; under that case hardening it’s fairly mild steel.

Great time to upgrade to target or combat parts.

The good news is replacement hammer and trigger will usually just drop in and yes, you should replace both at the same time.

There are some good deals on eBay.

That number is probably from 1975. Smith does not track manufacturing dates. They do track shipping dates.

A super good cleaning may fix your problem. Or might not.

Replacing the rear sight blade is not that hard, but it is strange. Taking the rear blade out is essentially an exercise in small-scale demolition.
