Need help with a DOB on a 3 incher

Browsing a pawn shop, I came accross a 3" barrelled Model 36 with lots of honest carry wear and factory grips in rough shape. Serial number 5481xx. The frame was not marked "Model 36" so I am guessing it is a pre model 36. The frame did have an inventory number that matched the crane. I might buy it and give it the TLC it needs. Can anyone give me a DOB? Thanks in advance.

Likely late 1960s. Serial number 295000 was in 1962 and serial number 786544 was in 1969. Yours would be somewhere in the middle.

Help me out Steve. Does that mean Ronald has a Model 36 that is not marked M-36? Richard

Richard, thanks for catching this. If it is a "Pre-36" and the frame is not model marked, then serial number should be lower. The serial numbers for Model 36 marked revolvers should be around 118,000 or so. So, if the serial number is 5481XX, then the frame should be marked Model 36.
