I picked this S&W model 586-4 up a while ago and have been wondering about the gun and the sticker on the case. The gun has a 4" barrel that has the Smith & Wesson and 357 Magnum markings on the left side of the barrel and nothing on the right side. The gun is a round butt gun. The sticker says "Special" under features and has a product code I can't find. Also the serial number is a little strange for a 586. What do you think this is?

I am having the same problem as you I cannot find the product code 103519 listed in the Standard Catalog of S&W for the 586 and a round butt is not listed either. I know they made RB 586's but perhaps for that series -4 it required a special order. Your right also about the serial # prefix does not appear in the catalog. Looks unique. I'm sure an expert will come along and correct me or provide more information.

Sir
I went looking for your Product Code in the SCS&W 4th edition.
I did not find it. The list of Product Codes jumps right over your number.
There were some contracts for guns for other countries that have different finish from most S&W guns. Some have a country Crest on them. They were guns for their law enforcement.
If your gun has any marking that are not standard S&W, it would help to see them. There were some 4 inch round butt guns for US Customs, not that finish.
Need more data and more pics to be of any real help.

There are no other markings on the other side of the gun. When you swing out the cylinder it only has: 586-4, no serial number above it. The serial number is on the bottom of the butt. I will add a few more pictures here in the morning but, I don't think it will matter much.

Sir
Found this product code. Same as yours with last two numbers flipped.
Product code 103591
"103591 4" SG Glass Bead. 2500 Manufactured. Special Production 1989"
Glass bead might define your finish. Meaning of SG unknown right now.

I have one of those. They are 586-3's. So it is not the same as my 586-4. Kind of hard to tell in this lighting but, the top gun is my 586-4, standard bluing and the bottom one is my 586-3 with glass bead finish. Both are round butt guns.
