need help

I have my dads old sand w. its a hand ejector with a 4in barrel and the ser. #is C3447xx. no mod #or reg# it has fixed sights and is a 38 spl.

C3447xx would be a Military and Police (M&P) model which probably shipped in late 1955. That was prior to the use of model numbering by S&W which began in 1957.
