Actually that's a very SHORT time to wait for a custom holster. An expensive Milt Sparks holster will have a wait time of at least 6 months or more.

There are many high quality holster makers out there.

Beware of any that ask for money upfront while giving a long wait time.

See Lobogunleather.com

I don't own any of his products yet but it's only a matter of time. He has a very good reputation here on this forum. And good prices too.

Another is KDholsters.com

Smith & Wesson sells holsters that are competitively priced on their site. They seem to be made by Galco, and have the S&W stamp on them. I have a thumb break model that is very good. Spend money for a high quality belt, too.

I have a Hume JIT (I have one for all my guns), a DeSantis SOB, a Galco shoulder rig, and a Loboleather Snap-Loop pancake. They are all great quality. I think the DeSantis is gorgeous workmanship for a big company, and they make other models, of course. Ray Cory at Lobo is a great craftsman and I like being able to remove the holster without stripping my belt off (I'm a leftie).

Lots to choose from. Maybe that's the problem, too much choice! I usually end up with at least three holsters for each gun, and I still keep looking!

All of the major manufacturer's sell for the M&P. Mine rides in a Kramer #3 IWB or a Milt Sparks VM-2 most of the time. My OWB holster is a DeSantis that is really for a Glock 20/21 which fits my M&P .40 Full size very well. I too end up with several holsters for most of the herd. Hope that helps....

Selection of a holster requires some consideration of your intended uses, your usual activities, your normal wardrobe, and other factors. There is a page on my website that addresses these factors, and others. You may contact me via the website with any questions you may have and I'll be happy to reply.

I have a CSO by Monica Kuehn, similar to Galco's side-snap-scabbard, but at a better price and I think her quality is outstanding. I also have one of hers ordered for my Ed Brown 1911...

I'm in the boat, although I'm kinda glad that Raven has such a long wait time because I really feel that is too much for a simple kydex holster. Might be worth it to know what I am getting though.

I was looking at G-Code holsters, although I'm not sure how well they are going to sit tight against my body for OWB but still concealed carry.

I'm getting ready to purchase a (custom) kydex pancake for my 40c from Personal Security Systems. There's some photos of some of the rigs he's made on the other M&P CCW forum at:
http://smith-wessonforum.com/concealed-carry-self-defense/159587-custom-kydex-gear.html.
In fact, I'm going to buy the black holster shown in the 3rd photo down, except it will be shorter to accomodate the short(er) barrel on the 40c. I believe there will be a two week turnaround on anything you order.

Thanks for that, MotorCity. Yes, I have the M&P9 on hand. I am waiting for a shipment of blue guns, which includes MotorCity's, to come in.

I would STRONGLY advise people think twice about ordering from Botach Tactical. They are really making me look bad by refusing to ship my order out.

But anyways, just send me an email if you are interested. I would be more than happy to make whatever you want.

Raven's wait time is based on their great reputation. The design that they use, which I also use and dates back to an early Desanti holster and knife sheath modularity, takes only a few hours to make.

I can understand Raven's wait time, because the kydex pancake design is really unmatchable in modularity, comfort, concealability, speed of draw, retention, and even price. I would even go as far to say that I like my design more than Milt Spark - which I consider to be the standard for gun holsters.

Raven is a great company and you should strongly consider them. If the wait is too much to handle, I would suggest you try one of my holsters. You could still order the Raven if desired and when it arrived, sell mine or sell the Raven, depending which you like more. The demand for kydex pancake holsters is huge right now.

I also offer money back if you don't like the holster, and I believe Raven does too, so you really can't lose.

To the poster who thought Raven was too expensive, if this is the case it is only by a few dollars. There is a lot of work that goes into a custom kydex holster, and manpower is expensive. I have a drawer full of old holsters I've built up over the years. I now only carry my own custom kydex holster. The ability to go from IWB to OWB and adjust cant with only removing a few screws makes it very versatile. I could probably throw away that drawer full of holsters and never notice or care. Good luck in your search and keep us posted on what you end up with!

Raven *Phantom*

I carry IWB soft loops with my M&P9C Ares Ranger belt. I have a Raven double mag pouch on order with Malabar Front. I don't mind the wait. They have a life time warranty on all of their products.

That's a great looking rig! How are you liking the Ares? I am currently running an Instructor belt, but have considered the Riggers style many times over the years.

A limited lifetime warranty is very important for companies i believe. Raven, like my own company, has unfortunately had to change some aspects of their warranty due to scammers. People were taking advantage of Raven's "just take a picture and send it to us" warranty process by sending the picture, getting a new holster, and selling the broken holster half price under the prefix of "Broken Raven Holster - just get ahold of Raven for a new one free".

I ran into something similar under my replacement warranty, but I was told the person intentionaly broke their holster because it had some surface scratches on it and wanted a shiny new one. I replaced the holster and didn't hear this until later from someone he referred to me.

A good quality custom kydex holster smith can offer a lifetime warranty because the product is almost indestructable through its intended use and doesn't wear out / lose form like leather. When someone scams the lifetime warranty, it not only hurts us but hurts other customers. I keep my prices and lead times as low as I can, but when someone scams a repair it hurts both, since repairs are put before new orders.

The gun community is extremely honest and looks out for one another, so it is often a shock to us in the industry when we come across such people. Luckily, they are few and far between. I have yet to turn down any warranty work until this day and I don't believe I will ever have to either.

Anyways, good looking gear and it conceals very well despite your small frame. Even the mag pouch looks great. Have you ever considered carrying the mag pouch IWB?

Yes, I am small...female, 120lbs 5'5". That M&P on me is a compact.. full size is just too big. I recently bought the S&W .380 Bodyguard (had it replaced with a new frame) for deeper concealment when necessary or a BUG. I was pleased to discover that the BG.380 fits beautifully in my Raven ACR rig for the LCP/CT laser that I used to own. I have passed the info onto Malabar office mgr Tom F. and at a recent MDFI class he was able to inspect the fit.
Unfortunately, one local company sees fit to copy everything that Raven/Malabar Front produces. IMO... that is just WRONG and why I will wait two months and pay more for a Raven. I have a set of soft loops that I can switch to IWB for the mag carrier (I have double mag carrier on order) The Ares belt is AWESOME! I really like the break away buckle and not having velcro to cinch. I am lucky that my state has some top instructors close at hand, have led me in the right direction for gear and the proper gun for my needs.

It doesn't get any better than this....

I'm interested to hear more on the new frame. That's the first I've never heard of a frame being replaced on the BG .380.

I think I know the company you are referring to. People would be much more accepting if they tried to expand on the product and improve it instead of simply duplicating it. But this is capitalism...

You mentioned MDFI. Do you know the status right now? I always put off taking a class there, and now Steve got hired by Magpul. Congratulations to him, I'm just worried about classes filling up and the price increasing. Although MDFI was really asking too little for such high quality classes.

Anyways, let me know if you've heard anything about new classes. I check their website once in awhile with no luck. I'll put some serious thought into the Ares. Last I checked I believe the lead was about 4 weeks, which isn't bad at all.

Steve is very busy with Magpul. His group of guys are very good and can do the job even if he can not be present. He did raise his price last year... but still very low for the quality of his class. I don't think he plans to raise it again.

I had the frame replaced on mine when a guy had tried my BG had the pin back out. When I saw on another chat board where other BG.380 owners were getting a new frame addressing the issue... time to send mine in. I got mine back last Friday. Funny thing is that when the S&W rep/tech called me to inform what was done... I let the cat out of the bag ... informing him that I was aware of the new redeisgn and new SN series. He was shocked... "How did you know that?" LOL ... I believe they are dealing with this on the QT, trying to avert a recall. I love this little .380 as much as I do my M&P9c (after the work that I had done to it... extra finger serrations for better, easier racking and a lighter trigger job)

Love the serrations. The top is great. Nothing better for a quick rack off the pant leg. Have you ever looked at the stippling done by Bowie Tactical? I may be the next step in a perfect pistol. Some stay away from stippling for carry guns though, but its never bothered me. I try and keep all my P-Mags stippled, and it really helps on reloads.

Do you know if Steve's staff will be hosting classes? It's a few hours from where I live, but I definately would like to attend some classes. I don't think the website has listed anything in awhile. Is there someplace else to look for class schedules?

Thanks in advance, Kris.
