MP 40 Pro Holster

I purchased this MP a few months ago and am awaiting my CPL license. I am holster shopping now, and have it narrowed down to the Kingtuk for IWB, but I also want an OWB holster and here is where I am stuck. Kydex vs leather? My front runner is the Galco Concealable belt holster, but I am interested in kydex too. Any recommendation on kydex vs leather for OWB carry? My buddies prefer kydex. How many of you have a leather holster that needs to be replaced due to wear in the trigger area?

I own many holsters...all leather and have NEVER had a holster wear out in the trigger guard area. Never had a leather holster wear out ever.....

Most of my herd rides in Milt Sparks VM-2 or Kramer #3....not cheap but well worth what you pay for.

Many factors go into holster selection and you should narrow things down a bit.

How long a period will you wear it? An hour a day, 12-18 hours? Every day? What materials will best suit you, what features do you want/need? ie. Thumb strap retention, IWB or OWB?

How much am I willing to spend on it? You almost always get exactly what you pay for.

Am I going to use this holster for only concealed carry or will I use it for some matches like IDPA/USPSA? If so, there are some other considerations to cover like making sure the trigger guard is covered etc.

For outside waistband I love the Blackhawk holsters which are kydex and have excellent retention. Try one of them out for yourself!

If you are going to open carry, make sure that it has an active retention device. Thumb strap, blackhawk, or safariland. I didnt like the safariland because they dig into your side.

The Comp-Tac Minotaur Gladiator Holster looks very nice for OWB. I also like the MTAC IWB holster too. Both would be for concealed carry.

Sometimes I carry an MP 40 Pro Series in a Galco Concealable and it is the best fitting holster I own. Doesn't print bad under a heavy sweater or sweatshirt and seems more than solid. I'd give it an A.

That is an OWB holster you posted. Nice looking, but how do you conceal that short of wearing a long sweater or jacket?

I own 2 M-Tacs for my Glocks. I always loved them. I bought an M&P and a King Tuk and I like it alot.

For one I live in Tennessee which is an open carry state so complete concealment isn't needed. It conceals fairly well under an untucked T Shirt. but come Summer I usually carry an SP 101 in a pancake hybrid OWB holster.

Nope, must take 8 hours of classes, 4 hours instruction followed by passing a test, 4 hours shooting and receiving a passing grade. Get a background check and wait for the state to send you your permit.

I ended up ordering the Comp-Tac as suggested in one of the earlier posts here. I like the full coverage of the mp40, I was going to get the king tuk, but the kydex on that holster left the barrel exposed. Maybe the tuk will be my second iwb (just in case). It should ship today, so I will report out with pics when I receive it. Also picked up the double mag holder; cant wait!

You will love the MTAC which is both leather on the back (next to your body) and kydex formed to your gun, it will take about one week to get it in the mail. I wear mine all the time, except I take my gun out in the car then put it back when out of the car, but mine is only two weeks old so as the leather forms to my body I might not have to do this even though I want to be able to reach my weapon quickly so this might stay the same!

There is another interesting discussion. What do you folks do with your carry weapon when you get into your car? Leave it holstered, or do you have a set up in the car. I have been thinking a nice place to keep mine would be stuffed between the seat cushion and the center console in a holster. Those steering column holsters look cool but my long legs would be bumping into my hardware constantly.
