Thank you in advance

Those appear to be the same type that came on my Model 38.

They appear to be standard J frame wood Magna stocks. If there is not a number stamped on the inside they were either factory replacements, or from the era after they were fitted individually to each gun (1981 or later).

According to SCSW 4th, your pistol shipped around 1994, and S&W changed to Uncle Mike's rubber in 1994, so it is possible, but unlikely that those were original. If that's what customer service told you, the Uncle Mike's likely came with . . .

The previous owner of your M38 was probably one of the people that absolutely hate rubber grips.

Grips?

Those appear to be a "semi-high horn" which came on the older Mod 38. If you compare those to any other J frame grips you will see the horn is just a little taller but not as tall as mod 40/42 high horns!

Thank you, I never even considered that.

Here's my Model 42 which may help illustrate the point...Mine is a very early (S/N 123XX) example with the extra lockscrew on the upper sideplate screw, but the stocks are numbered to the frame so I know they're original...;)...Ben

I have mod 42 #12384 that has the "bug screw" on the upper side plate screw(thanks Mike). Does yours have the bug screw?

Yessir it does although my poor photography makes it hard to see...Not meaning to hijack the thread, but SCSW 4th edition talks of an extra pin stored under the stocks which Supica says is rarely found...Does any one have a picture of how this pin is stored?......Ben

EDIT: Also yours is numbered 20 away from mine...
