I have an unfired S&W model 25-2 converted by Austin Behlert in .45ACP of course, and was looking for information. Trying to find out about the quality of the work. Is this similar to a Jovino? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Just searched www.pistolsmiths.com He owned a custom pistol shop in Piperville, PA Behlert Precision Inc, and like you, witnessed his name with Jovino guns. If Jovino's repaired guns I don't know.
I passed on a 45 Colt like yours, clean, smooth, $600. nice just not ACP! Enjoy, Notime2

Austin Behlert was one of America's premier handgun gunsmiths. He was mostly known for his work on 1911's and Browning High Powers but did excellent S&W work, as well. His son took over the business when Austin died, but I don't know if they ae still a going concern.

mwpslp, that's one fine handgun you got there, and a great piece of American gunning history!

Austin Behlert was one of the best pistol-smiths (IMHO) of all time. I'd prefer one of his to a Jovino, but I'm biased. I used to read about Behlert when I was a kid, and wanted one of his mini Hi Powers. Never could afford one. He used to set up at Camp Perry for the nationals, and was busy from light to dark. Check out the link that Notime2 posted and you'll find out lots about him. Google works too.

Notime2, if that Behlert Colt is still available, please let me know.

Here's a presentation HP by Behlert that I lucked into.

I have a 70 series Colt Combat Commander done by Austin Behlert and to say his work was great would be an understatement.

I had one dealing with him in the early 80s with a Browning High Power that I had some Bo-Mar sights installed on and a trigger job done. The sights were installed so that they were canted off a few degrees and the trigger pull was poor. They did correct the sights but refused to do anything about the trigger.
When I complained about the trigger the attitude of Austin was "we're the best, so it must be a problem with your expectations."
I sent the pistol to Cylinder and Slide and had it rectified at the cost of a new hammer and sear and got the trigger pull I expected.
I don't know who did the work on my particular pistol, the old man, the son, an apprentice. I do know I didn't appreciate the attitude and certainly never sent anything else to them, although I think my experience was likely not typical.

Austin Behlert, his son Frank and his son-in-law Art Leckie all worked in the shop at some point in time. After the "Old Man" retired, Art ran the shop--not sure why Frank didn't, but there must be a reason. If I recall correctly, Austin died two or three years ago, and Art Leckie maybe a year later. For what it's worth, a LOT of good Pistolsmiths got their start in Behlert's shop, among them George Smith of "EGW". Hope this helps. Paulie686.

Behlert and Jovino are the only names I
have heard for these type of conversions.

Seems like the Jovinos are marked.

Is the any way to confirm with good certainty
that one is a Behlert?Any special way of doing
something?
