Hello,

I came into possession (1) Smith K22 and (1) Smith 67-1.

I'm trying to figure out manufacturing dates and values. Any help would be appreciated.

I have included pictures

Both of these are great finds.

The K22 came in 3 models, ranging from 1931-1956, before becoming the Model 17 in 1957. Your K22 looks to be a 3rd model (post war) made between 1946-1956. If you post the serial number, the people on this forum should be able to narrow it down to an exact year of production.

I'm not very knowledgeable on the mod 67 so I can't help you there.

Just notice the Serial number on the Warranty Card is not the Serial of the gun.

I posted a a picture of the serial.

Thanks

Just spoke with SW and they dated the k22's DOB 1948 (Serial K24317)
and the 67-1 as 1982. Never knew smith would offer to date those firearms on the phone.

The serial number is on the butt of the gun for the K22-is that the same number as the one you give here? Both beautiful guns! The K22 w/box, screwdriver, papers is easily worth $750 and the 67-1 $400-500.:)

If you were to part it out, box ($50), SAT ($100), brass MOP and cleaning rod ($30), and helpful hints pamphlet and warranty card ($40). Those are my value guesses.

easily worth $750

I believe the key word is easily.
I'm not sure when bright blue became more standard on K 22's but the finish on yours is definitely nicer than some of mine that are a bit earlier.
May be special order or worth checking/asking about

I am curious is there a matching serial number in grease pencil on the box bottom?

Assuming the serial number on the warranty card is correct, your K-22 was probably shipped sometime in 1956. The Model 67-1 probably dates to 1982.

Ill double check the Butt for the serial. I just assumed it was the number behind the Yoke... it would make sense that its not since it does not match the one on the warranty card. Ill verify

Thanks

The box does have the Serial number grease penned that matches the k22 serial numbers.

What is the number behind the yoke?

That is an assemblers number, there to keep the correct parts together during assembly. It means nothing to collectors. That same assembly number will be stamped inside of the side plate. The backside of the right grip should have a serial number too. That will tell you if they are the original grips.

Serial number K265146 was issued in 1955 and the gun very well could have shipped in 1956. It has all five frame screws, so it was made relatively shortly before the top sideplate screw was eliminated sometime in 1956. I have number K278720 in my collection. It is a four screw gun and shipped in November, 1956, according to Roy.

Nice gun!
