I need a knife to carry clipped to the door pocket of my car to help me get out in case an accident traps me inside. I need a folder with one-hand opening, and a serrated or partly serrated blade, about 4 inches long, to cut the seat belts if needed. I also need a glass breaker so I can go out the window in case the electrically operated windows don't work and the door is jammed. I'll probably get two of them, one for the car and one for the truck. Any recommendations as to knife maker and model?

Check Premier Knives - they sell to law enforcement with department logos. Mine does everything you are looking for.

Fleet Farm has this one for under 20 bucks:

Not serrated, but it has the seatbelt-cutting slot. I assume it works. I don't want to start cutting up my seatbelts to try it out.

I think Spyderco can fill your needs.
The Endura is close to a 4" blade. They make several different models.
I carry a Delica all the time clipped to my pocket. Blade is about 3" long. Use it every day for something. Opening letters, cleaning my fingernails or cutting a steak, which grosses Missus Fan out, since she knows about the second duty.
They have a half serrated blade, and go for under 50 bucks.

Check out Benchmade knives. That have a lot of options.
Here is one that might work for you.
30200 Houdini-Pro? Rescue Hook Tool Product Detail

That's what I keep in my car for emergencies.

I would be wary of using the Res-Q-Me keychain tool that I see advertised everywhere. I've read a lot of complaints about unreliability with the glass breaker and mixed results with trying to use the cutter to cut seat belts.

I'm with P&R Fan.... Spyderco Endura4 will fill all of your requirements and you can also use it as defensive tool if need.
In Florida, a knife clipped to the side of your car door "MAY" be considered a concealed weapon by the law enforcement office who pulls you over for a traffic stop. My LEO brother-in-law informed me of that fact years ago when he borrowed my truck one day.

Check around for a a "Tool" especially made for this purpose. My son gave me a tool with a special little pointed hammer for breaking the glass, with a built in seat belt cutter, and the other end is a tire pressure gauge. It was a well built one.

We carry our EDC knifes plus we have an UST Auto - Escape Emergency Tool in our vehicles. They are not listed on the UST website anymore but they are still available.

If you want a do-it-all knife look into the Gerber Hinderer rescue knife. If you want an American made knife perhaps an Emerson might be the right choice?!

Btw, some tactical pens also offer a glass breaker if that's your concern.

You can usually find the ones made by General and the hardware store.

These work beautifully and don't require any room or strength to wind up and swing. Just press it against the glass and it does the rest.

I've got a couple of EMS/Fire and Rescue buddies and they swear by these.
