I was needing opinions from those here who own original WWII 1911s--which have to be all matching and in at least 80% or better condition--to please let me know what are acceptable prices on these? Reason im asking is I was wondering if a nice one made by Remington Rand--in the above condition--is a good deal at between $1,650-to-$1,850? or if thats too much?

Ive been offered several from one collector who has around 18 of these for sale and im interested in a few of his ive already seen. The last one I had was about 15 years ago--was a minty 42 Remington Rand--only had slight holster wear-was O.D. Green, and I got that one from local collector for $1,000 circa 1999..

Sorry, I have no collector advice for you. I do admire those who can plunk down this kind of cash for something that won't be used; at least not much.

If I had $1,800 to spend on a 1911, it would be a Les Baer.

Thanks. The only way I have that kind of money is due to selling mt German tunic, visor and the other items. Im trying to keep money made from one collectable--to that of the same kind. Otherwise, id go buy a new tv, dvd recorder, cell phone and lap top. :-))

Two years ago I sold a very pristine 1942 Colt for $2,000 to a dealer. I know he resold it for much more.

That does help. Makes me looking like ill be getting a pretty decent deal.

At 80%,a little high imo. I've seen 'em sell for that though. They will only increase in price and availability however.
f.t.

Im thinking ill like it more as an investment gun and something to kind of show off some. Ever since I got rid of General Hardaways gun, ive been wanting another like his.

For a mint Remington Rand, those prices aren't out of line. For an 80% pistol, more in the $900 to $1100 range. Just my humble opinion from collecting for many years.

Thank you on this too. Actually, I think its more than 90%, but just wanted to get more a "feel" of wider ranges. I havent seen the rest of his 1911s, so im not stuck on the two ive been looking at. Im going to see if he will let me see some of the others? If im shelling out that kind of money? I want the best I can get.

I saw another dealer with a few 1911s, they looked in rougher shape--but I didnt have time to do more than lance. Not sure if they were matching either.

I've had mine for many years now and I have not shot it at all. I have a couple of other .45's, including an S&W 645 that I shoot.

The RR stays in the safe unless I take it out to ogle it.:D

I gave up trying to buy a orginal ww 2 1911 at those high prices. Besides the bragging rights I just don't need taking up more room in the safe were its valuable prime realestate lately. When I can buy a Springfield armory
USGI, MIL-SPEC or a GI-MIL SPEC as it was called in '04. Or a Auto-Ordnance Army WW 2 copy and save cash to get more SA USGI or MIL-SPEC at the same cost of one orginal. You can purchase a few new 1911's at that price of "1" orginal. My point is I have more fun shooting three new 1911's over shooting 1 orginal. I been a surplus collector for decades and never bought a high priced surplus gun. I never spent over $750 on a rare piece. Most of my stuff is gone now. I traded them in for s&w n frames. I GOTS the s&w history bug as well as the new s&w flu too.

Look at the new Auto-Ordnance Army WW 2 copy 1911a1 it's one of the finest USGI copies out there. I love mine.

Mine's going to remain under lock and key too--till I want to fondle it. :D

Just curious, but are you specifically looking to acquire a Remington-Rand,or would you be just as happy,or happier, with a Colt?
f.t.

Not particularily just RR, I like the other makes as well. Id love a Colt but would assume those are more expensive? I was reading somewhere on this site? that Remingtons were the most produced-but RRs werent? ((Scratches head)))

I can only go as high as $1,800, but would like going as low as possible still getting the best piece I can. My main thing is it has to be all matching and better than average.

I almost bought a new Auto Ordnance 45--almost. Thr guy I got mine from had both on order and had a bit of trouble thinking the A.O would be in to bring to me at the gun show Feb 8th. Well, as my "luck" had it--both arrived but id already committed to the RIA since he had one in stock.

The Springfield, Auto Ordnance and a Thompson--are my next 45s.

Remington did not produce a 1911 between 1919 and 2010..... but Remington Rand did make lots of 1911A1's.. I have a few, they used to be the cheapest way into 1911-land, but that was when Singers could be had for a couple grand too..... 45 prices are WWAAAYYY out of my budget today, and it looks like 1500-1600 for a correct example is the rule more than the exception.... check out the 1911 forum... if you think S&W's get confusing 1911 guys will give you a migraine :D Good luck!
