Need some advice on first 44 Magnum purchase

Gents, I'm interested in this one and wanted to check with the experts:

ARMSLIST - For Sale: Smith & Wesson 629 Classic 44 Mag

I think I can haggle it down to $900. It will be used mainly to punch holes in paper and maybe for hunting. This will be my first 44.

I don't know what the scope is worth, but you can get a brand new 629 classic with a 5" barrel on Buds for $785 shipping included.

I tend to agree with Capttjk1. Seems a bit high when a new gun which can have a scope mounted to it can be a better deal.
Another question I have is, are you sure you need a scoped .44 for your first.44 purchase?

That Leupold FX-II scope, brand new, sells for around $380 - $400. The silver finish scopes are priced higher than the matte finish.
I'm not sure what the value is for used Leupold scopes, but I have to believe they retain most of their value. I'd guess the scope could be worth close to $250 used?

If you can get it for $900, it seems like it'd be a great deal. Even the $1,000 asking price doesn't seem out of line to me.

My LGS has one like yours for $1,000. Your .44 looks in much better shape too.

Yeah mine came new, 629-6. I probably have 250-300 rounds through it. Now I want to engrave it! Lol, and fill my Wood grips in...

A 4x is too much scope for me personally, however you could sell the scope for fair amount if you don't like it.

That pre-lock 629 plus the high end scope is easily worth $800+++ in my neck of the woods.
Lacey isn't that far away. maybe I'll just take a drive up there..

I reload and think this will be an interesting addition to my nascent S&W collection. I wanted a non-lock version of the 44 mag so hopefully this will be the one!

The 629-3s and -4s are very fine guns. Some of the best .44 Mags ever made and I like them all up to the MIM parts and lock!

the gun in question is a pre lock pre mim gun with beautiful lines due to the hammer mounted firing pin and lack of material surrounding the ugly lock. this gun is worth more than a New one

you can tell its non lock by the picture . I'd pay 900 for this gun without the scope
