Need some advice on first 44 Magnum purchase

Here it is...

Well, I came home last night with the one that I mentioned at the beginning of this thread. I did a quick cleaning and swapped out the original Hogue with this set that came off of my 627. I was wondering if someone can tell me when it was manufactured (serial number is BNY8427) and have any details about this 629-3 model. I paid $900 and all appears to be in very pristine condition.

Nice. I think you did well at that price.

It looks like your gun dates to roughly mid 1993.
SCSW 3rd edition says:
BNW - March, 1993
NPD - October 1993

Hey guys, I have a chance to buy a 29-5 7 1/2" barrel full underlug with box and papers. It is factory engraved "The Attack" and is unfired and comes withe Smith and Wesson drawing of the gun and engraving.
Any idea what I should offer? It's beautiful but I plan on shooting it. That's my idea of owning revolvers.
Comments please !
Thanks for any information on this potential purchase.....

Looks like a great score! :) Did you get the original rear sight, too?

Yes, it came with the stock rear sight. It was missing the little square elevation stud and hole plugs so will have to track those down with a supplier.

The stud and C-ring are available on Midway. Go on--ask me how I know.

But hey, the best part is when you go to get the little C-ring on.

Very nice, 5" is perfect for that gun.

Sold the Leupold sight

I just sold the Leupold scope and mount for $260 on ebay. So my net cost on this revolver is around $650. I'm now in the hunt for a red dot and looking hard at the Leupold Delta Point Pro with the AllChin Mini STS Scope Mount. More to follow.

Update on my new 44 mag

Well, I thought I post my latest update of my S&W 629-3 Classic. I replaced the Leupold scope with a Leupold Delta Pro red dot:

The red dot is mounted on a Allchin Smith & Wesson Mini STS Scope Mount. I was very impressed with the quality of this mount and it made mounting the Leupold red dot very easy:

Off to the range this weekend to sight it in!

You did good at $650 after shedding that scope. I like to buy them at $600 OTD, and you came close to that. I think your gun has the endurance package which is great. There were a few years in the early 1990's when the 29/629 peaked. . .Smith never made one as good and after that it was all downhill.
