This is a M17-? I looked at it once in person while buying some other guns from a guy. I didn't think to look at the crane to see what the dash number is (if there is one).I passed due to the poor condition of revolver. In retrospect, I am thinking about getting it in spite of the terrible shape the bluing is in. If it locks up tight, I might get it. I can get into it for $140. Too much? Looking at the picture, I think it's a five screw.

What year were the five screws made? Look at the trigger and hammer, notice the lack of case coloring. I know the grips are aftermarket.

What do you guys with way more experience think? What is it worth in this condition?

Thanks

If it locks up tight and operates properly and the bore is OK, it is definitely worth more than $140. I'd pay $200, but I'm cheap and my mind is stuck in the past. However, I may still be close to correct.

5 screws ended in 1955. I have a pre-15 with similar hammer that is probably 1951.

I can't really see the hammer well, is that a fishhook? If it is, and original to the gun wouldn't that make it an earlier post-war K22? The condition appears well used but well worth $140.

Are you kidding me? You are contemplating spending 140 bucks on it? You better grab it before it gone.

You guys keep him busy while I see if I have a friend in Huntsville that can beat him to it!!:D

Dagnabbit, don't know anybody in Ala. Guess you're safe!!;)

please--don't waste any time--go buy that piece before it disapears-

I was refering to the hammer & trigger being silverish in color. I don't know what could turn a case colored part silver like that.

Can someone explain the "fish hook" hammer. This is a new term for me. Thanks

It's hard to make out enough detail, but it appears to me that a later wide Target trigger has been installed. The hammer looks like it's original with wear consistent with the condition of the rest of the gun. Quite simply, it's been modified by someone who enjoyed shooting it enough to spend some money on it to make it better. IMO if the barrel hasn't been shot out you'll find it's in top notch mechanical condition.

As for the price, you're kidding right? If it hasn't been shot into a smooth bore that price is a steal.

going to call him and hopefully he still has it. He also had a M27 & M28. Both were pinned from what I can see. Haven't held them yet, only saw a pic.

The way I look at it, $140 is way less than half-price for a five-screw K-22 in that condition. If the gun had its original stocks and maybe just a little bit more blue left, it would be at least a $450 gun. If it had 95% of its blue left, I'd expect to see it on a table wearing a price tag north of $500.

Worn? Hardly. Somebody just went to the trouble of breaking it in for you!

Get it.

and even if the bore is shot smooth it can always be rebarreled.

i'd have no probelm with that gun and id have even less problem paying that entrance fee.
