Whenever I do a search on Gun Broker, I always get tons of items come up that have nothing to do with my search. Even when I go advanced. I seem to recall being able to use asterisks or quotation marks or something to narrow the search to those words. I can't recall what I'm supposed to do though. I hate doing a search with hundreds of hits only to find that most have nothing at all to do with what I'm looking for. Can someone help me here?

Do your search and/or use the list of categories on the left to filter your results. Example... Pistols: Revolvers: Smith and Wesson: Model: caliber: Barrel length: capacity: frame finish etc etc

Yep. that's what I do. I go to "reloading bullets" and type in what I'm searching for and I still get tons of stuff totally unrelated to my search. I specifically searched for 10mm and I get 45's and 9mm and all kinds of stuff that doesn't even have any of my search words in the title. Obviously, I'm doing something wrong but can't seem to figure it out. I just tried again and found that if I am not specific it will pull up mostly what I am searching for. However, if I type in 10mm HST or anything else specific I get all kinds of stuff. Happens with other things too.

Sometimes it's not you. If the seller lists in a specific category and one of their words match your search, it will show up on the results.

You are not alone. Seems to me I have been seeing the same thing on GB. Recently I searched "Winchester model 52" under bolt action rifles. Three pages - great. Maybe only a page worth of 52's, bunch of other stuff.
Also don't care for the way when you search "ending soonest", it only shows premium adds first, "Buy now", then all regular adds. Little things that make it a pain sometimes.

I'm about convinced that GB allows commercial sellers to prioritize their offerings in search results. It is annoying when the featured stuff obscures the results you want. I've found it helpful to filter for used offerings. This drops the mass market sellers to the bottom of the stack including one which I despise for cluttering up my search results.
I don't think you are.
Unscrupulous sellers hammer all sorts of non-related gibberish into their search terms (i.e., Colt, Ruger, .44 Magnum, Winchester, etc.).
Danged annoying. GB seems to allow sellers to do whatever they want.
Buyers? Not at all. We're at the mercy of the "machine."

An interesting thing I just noticed. Doing a search for "Federal 10mm" and I get 19 items. only 4 were for 10mm. The rest were misc. However, I did notice that every single one of the others was the same exact seller. So, maybe it's some kind of an algorithm.
Have you tried the "Advance search" .. Click "advance" just to the right of the SEARCH button. You can narrow things down a good bit.

...the "Not" operation is feasible, like in a Boolean search. Of course you would have to type a lot of 'Nots' after you saw all the garbage that your search yielded.
I Really hate it when you search for a common gun and you get pages and pages of parts, accessories, grips, etc.

I can explain this to a degree. According to the Firefox search tool, the user has embedded invisible items into the area shown in the picture. There is one occurrence of "10mm" and three total of "mm". I cannot get these items to display, but maybe somebody with a better way to view the code on a webpage can find them.
