Need some help on dating my 586 any help would be greatly appreciated

Hi,
I just picked up a beautiful nickel Smith 4 inch 586 and have the original box and all papers and was wondering if anyone could help me date it, the serial number is AVT7650 Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Model 586 was produced c. 1981-1999

does yours have a dash number?

engineering changes go from 586-1 (1986)
to 586-6 (1997)

check for a dash number and if none is present and your model is a 586, then it would have been made between 1981 and 1986

Welcome to the Forum. From the standard reference, your 586 most likely shipped in 7/87 per the AVT prefix. Enjoy!

Thanks guys, and yes my is a 586-1 model . Does that change the 1987 figure?

No, JRahal is correct and the -1 was first made in 1987 as he stated.
