Well I'm new to guns so I picked up this SD9 VE I love this hand gun it's awesome well I shot about 500 rounds through it so I figured I should clean it.well bad idea everything went ok when disassembling the hand gun cleaned it properly like the YouTube video showed me but when assembling it back together I must have done something wrong the slide won't go all the way back and I'm not able to disassemble it anymore man I hope I didn't break this hand gun I'm super bummed anyone have any ideas what I can do or did I just really ruin my first hand gun

Very unlikely you "ruined" anything. But hard to diagnose the problem remotely. Most of the time, people get agitated about something like this, and stop thinking clearly about process. So it's always best to stop and think about it. Read the disassembly instructions in the manual carefully and/or look at a good disassembly video. Above all, do not force anything! You should be able to figure this out if you approach it calmly. If not, have a decent gunsmith in the area look at it. He'll likely figure in out in about 30 seconds at no, or very minimal, charge.

as stated above..... pull the trigger and field strip, this happened to me once. if this doesnt fix you up let us kno. goodluck!!

Yes, it happens to all of us at some time or another!
The striker is cocked and ready to fire but the barrel and slide are out of battery. Just pull the trigger and the slide assembly will come right off!

Ditto to what MICOCYCO said. It happened to me the first time I cleaned it. Don't let it sour your opinion of the SD. The best $319.00 I ever invested!

I agree it's the rod and spring but how did u forced it won't u break or bend the plastic rod
I can not say it will not but my bet is that is just what a gun smith or S&W will do when you send it back.

Is this a new gun , did you buy it at a local gun shop , are you absolutely sure there is no round ( bullet ) in the gun ?
If you do bend the guild rod I am sure the life time warranty will cover it , if you did not buy it new you can get them for about $30 I think.
If you got it from a local gun shop I would think they would be able to help, I would call first.

When you are trying to force the slide back & forth you must be sure the takedown levers on both sides are down all the way.
Don't for get to point at the floor & pull the trigger, there is no mag in the gun.

How far did you go on the break down? Field strip only? It could be the guide rod but it could also be that the trigger bar is out of alignment at the sear housing block depending on how far you stripped it down. This can be corrected by removing the end cap and removing the striker and it should free everything up.Let us know how it goes.

I am also a new SD40VE owner and may have the same problem (or possibly worse!). During reassembly apparently the barrel and recoil spring were not properly seated. The slide went back on but stops about 1/4" from the back of the frame. The barrel and recoil rod stick out the front of the slide about the same distance and the rear of the barrel appears to be angled downward (see photo). I'm hesitant to apply undue force for fear of damaging components inside the frame. Sure feel pretty dumb right now!

I am so relieved! Finally got the slide off again and all is well...no apparent damage to the recoil rod/spring or barrel. The trick was getting the slide back to a point where I could safely pull the trigger to allow the slide release to engage. I don't know why things got out of position on the first reassembly but I know now that the slide should always move freely and you should never force it if you feel any resistance.
I love the feel and fit of this firearm and can't wait to go to the range. I've already learned a lot from this forum and will visit often in the future. Thanks to everyone who regularly contributes and offers assistance to us new guys.
