Found one locally and am going to look at it in a couple hours. Was this some sort of factory offering? The guy mentioned a 4 way front sight for Silo. shooting? Going to see it in a couple hours, just wondering if $675 sounds right or not? Condition hasn't been determined by me yet but he says it "looks nice".

I do not know about a stainless cylinder but I have a 29 Classic Hunter with four position front sight.
Here it is with a 686 with the same sight.

Is this a 29 Silhouette Model with the 10 inch barrel?
And it has a stainless steel cylinder? I've never heard of that combination in this model but others on this forum can help out with this.

f you could get the Serial Number and call S&W for verification, it would be in your best interest I believe.

Well I just got it home, hope I didn't get screwed!! It's identical to TBURY's gun with the exception that mine has a stainless cylinder. I hope this thing is factory and not somebody's "home build".

It is a 29-3 by the way. Also, they have had it for quite some time and let it go for $525 out the door. I guess if it shoots, any 29 would be worth $525. It's in good shape, 90% I'd say, some small blue wear in the right side. I would love to get rid of the Hogues and get some targets on it, or any wood for that matter. Anybody have anything cheap??

I'll post some pics later tonight.

Also, mine has a polished trigger and hammer? Not color case. I'm guessing this is just a small run that was done for someone as opposed to a parts gun now that I think of it, too many differences.

Mine is a 29-3 from 1987 serial number AYE262xx. I paid $737 out the door. The first shot at 25yds with Magtec 240gr bullets was dead center. I was happy

. The 686 showed up a couple of weeks later and just had to come home.

Is there any chance it could be a cylinder with all the factory blue finish removed?
Either way I think you did okay. The 29-3 was a nice gun. I have one like first one shown.

The 29 silhouette was first production run with 29-3, first guns having a 'N' prefix serial number that changed to the three letter serial prefix. Came with checkered goncalo alves target grips with S&W medallions. .400" target trigger, .500 target hammer, shrouded extractor. In 1988 changed to the 29-4, very good condition will list it at $575.00, looks like you did good.

Also, you might try some cold blue on a hidden spot on the cylinder to see if it is SS or Carbon steel. SS will not take cold blue.

Had one myself and regret selling it, but I was in school and needed money. I had it sighted in to 200 yards with just turning the front sight wheel, cool gun.

Ian,
That's a wild-looking (as in "Gorgeous") revolver.

Would you post a pic of the extractor star (with the cylinder opened)?

Thanks,

This series is called the "Classic Hunter." The "Silhouette" guns with the 4 position front sights had 10-5/8 inch barrels, while the Classic Hunters had 6 inchers.
