Need tips on smoothing grip on Shield Plus for IWB

My M&P Shield Plus is a great CCP, but the grip chaps my skin after a long carry.
Anybody have any tips to share on how you did yours? What to do and what not to do, since this can't be undone?
Sandpaper? What grit?

I put the rubberized Talon grip tape on 3 of my M&P’s for the same reason you described. I even had to take a file to the mag button on the shield+ because of the holster style I use.
They definitely have a ruff texture.

I don't have a Shield, but have put Talon grips on all three of my Glocks. I highly recommend them, but the modification is pretty much permanent. Pictured is a Glock 21 Gen 4 with Talons.

Edit: I don't know whether or not they can be removed. I've just never tried to remove one. Might check their website

You could try Overgrip Tape used on tennis rackets. It is cheap, removable, and it can give you an idea of what a more permanent solution would do when you increase the size of the grip. It also works well in the cold, or with sweaty hands when other kinds of grips can seem slippery. Available on Amazon for a few bucks.

I can't say enough good things about the rubberized Talon Grips I bought for my Shield V2 9mm Subcompact Perf Center Model.

Feel great and my grip is better than ever. Highly recommended.

Take some 220 grit sandpaper and lightly buff the area of the grip that offends you. Just a few passes will remove the high points yet still leave enough texture for a non-slip grip.

Just to chime in on the sandpaper: You may not need much. I used sandpaper on mine for all of about 20 seconds, and that was enough to take the "edge" off. It still feels plenty grippy, though.

I understand you 100%. I've been carrying my Plus in a lighttuck and I can definitely feel the grip rubbing my skin. I've actually been carrying my original shield 1.0 more often because of this. My 2.0 fullsize is the same way and I have to use the small insert because the bigger ones cut into my skin too much.

If I would have known this from the beginning I probably would have got a leather or leather backed hybrid holster for these guns. I've loved my lighttucks for everything else. I really dont want to sand it down because I love the way it feels in hand too much.

I used sandpaper on my Shield 45. Just the left side. Got a little close to the back side of the mag release and discolored it slightly but not too bad. Doesn't take much to round the sharp edges.

Actually, I use 400 grit. 220 can “get away from you” if you start out pressing too hard.
And if you’re right handed, you can smooth down the left/finger side of the grip more, which is the more offensive side as it rides against your skin.

I just took some 600 grit sandpaper with about 3-4 strokes per sharp area of the grips (actually, I tried it on a 15 round magazine first) and that was just enough to take off the excess sharpness while still having a lot of traction left.
