on this video on youtube (at the bottom) it looks like the m&p 22 is the same size look and feel (also said in the video) of the 9mm. I want to practice shooting my 9mm but it just costs too much for me right now.

Would this m&p 22 keep me in tune for my m&p 9mm compact if i practiced with it?

other question, do they make a compact version in the 22, or one that can take double stacked mags? (sorry i know this question is something i should know. Its just i saw some come w/ 12 rounds others with 10 rounds).

I have the M&P.22 and yes..it is the same size as the other full size M&P's. Mine came with the 12 round mag. The 10 round mags can be converterd to 12's in a minute. The M&P.22 is a great shooting gun....LOVE IT.

I have an M&P9c and an M&P 22. The M&P22 is physically larger. No compact MP22. Some states limit the rounds a magazine can take, so that's why there are 10 round magazines (for those states that won't allow higher capacity magazines). Some states don't, so that's why there are 12 round magazines; for the M&P 22.

Thank you guys, Mazz, I really appriciate and feel lucky you found this post. You got the exact gun i own, and am looking to own.

One more question though if I buy the m&p 22 that holds 12 rounds, can it be turned into a ten, or can a ten only be turned into a 12?

You would need the spacer that goes on the end of the spring to convert it back. I doubt if you could buy a replacement. BUT...chances are you could find some on here from some one that doesn't want or need theirs. It's a great site. The M&P 22 is lighter that the FS models, but the same size and the trigger is a bit different. It will keep you in tune though and much cheaper shooting.

By the way, the reason we don't see double stack .22 mags on any pistol is because they tend to jam. Most rim fires are finicky and keeping them single stack ensure better feeding. So the M&P 22 is large enough, or should I say, wide enough to accommodate double stack .22 rounds, but Smith chose reliability over capacity.
