need your help

wanting to buy a new gun and cant decide between stainless or blued. prefer blued will they hold up with a lot of target shooting like stainless will? have had blued but have never shot or into targeted shooting like i am doing now. another thing will they polish up like a nickle plated gun with wax and the other stuff that some of you guys recommend for me for my nickel plated model 29

You can wax blued guns and they look really good, but I prefer stainless. I like to buy old cop trade-ins and with stainless you can clean up a ton of dings and scratches that would be impossible with a blued gun -- unless you wanted it reblued. Stainless goes all the way through.

If it's just for target shooting blue is great. It'll still look great after many thousands of rounds. Will have a turn line but most revolvers including ones rarely shot have them.

If you'll be using it as a woods revolver stainless is the way to go. Takes a licking and the finish holds up much better to the elements.

Like Ashlander said stainless is very easy to clean up and can be shined to a nickel like finish with some time, a cotton cloth and either Flitz or Mothers. I prefer Flitz. Once the bluing is gone it's gone forever. Kinda like that as the loss is like a nice scar that'll tell stories forever.

Carbon steel is better for extended shooting. It does not expand and contract as much as stainless. I use my blued guns for extended range usage.

I would not argue a bit on the strength of the carbon steel blued guns, but I seem to be one of those that will lay-awake at night and swear I can hear my blued guns rusting. Of course....that's nuts and just an over-statement.....only making a point. Stainless = less care and concern for the finish.
