Need your help!!!

Ok gang, I have a guy that has a model 28-2 in 95-98% condition, with both 4" and 6" barrels, original box, and a holster. I can blue book the value no problem, but what kind of impact does it make by having both barrels? He acquired it from the original owner (a friend of his) and has the story on the barrels....apparently his friend purchased it back in the mid 70's and it came with the 4" barrel. He wanted a 6" barrel so he sent it to S&W to have the 6" barrel installed and they shipped it back with both barrels. The only thing that's not original is the grips. So, what's it worth???

That is what I was thinking too. You could sell the barrel for that, you probably won't be swapping barrels off and on! I don't think the extra barrel would have any collector value. Not original grips-N frame magnas will cost you $50-75. Makes selling the extra barrel and buying replacement grips about even. Model 28s have sure gone up in the last couple of years. I would think a 95% would sell for $500, maybe $600.

In my area 7 to 800 fairly easily if it is as described. The holster doesn't add much, but the box, paperwork, cleaning kit, etc. add 150 to 200 to the value. I concur with Arjays comment on the barrel. Were it mine, I'd put the four incher back on.

EDIT: missed the part about non original grips. If its from the '70s, grips can be had for 75 to 100 bucks (ish), if its from the 60s, you'll pay more and have a harder time finding the diamond magnas that it most likely came with, 150 bucks or so. Were it me, I'd deduct that from the price.

Check for grips on ebay. There are sometimes nice grips at decent prices. I have a 28 no dash with 6" barrel. It is personal preference, but I like mine that way. Can't go wrong with a 28! Bob

Well it's all for nothing guys. We worked out a deal Thursday night and we were to meet up this morning. Now to raise the money for this purchase I sold another pistol of mine and some ammo. The guy texted me this morning and said he had worked out a better deal with someone else and that he was backing out. Deal went south....

I guess a man's word isn't what it used to be....or at least not for that guy. So....the model 28 is still on my list. The search continues....

Yeah that guy is not cool, once you say you'll meet and the deal is in motion you follow through. I know that feeling as it's happened to me and the person said "a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush" It sucked.
