needing grip ideas

I just bought a 696 and I'm not thrilled with the looks of the grips that came on the gun. Looking for suggestions for comfortable good looking grips for a RB L frame. Give me some ideas or better yet show me what you have

Cool gun. These originally came with Uncle Mike's rubber RB K/L frame stocks. Wood alternatives would include factory RB Combat stocks, but there are a whole bunch of nice options.

Comfortable grips are those made to fit YOUR hand. Anything else is a crapshoot and a waste of time and money!! Herrett's is the one I know best, and the one I'm comfortable recommending.

I like the ones you have on it currently. However, I've settled on a set of Altamonts round to square conversion on this 3".

Wood grips look the best. I've used Badger grips for combat style grips on a couple of guns and they look great. The VZ grips are a nice option and they have a lot of options to choose from. If you're going to shoot the gun a lot, those Hogue's that you have on it are hard to beat. Rubber grips are always my first choice on a working gun.

Personally I like the black rubber stocks on silver color revolvers. I like
the contrast. Here, on the left is my Model 67 no dash with Uncle Mike's,
Spegel designed combats.

You could never go wrong with a set from Herrett's. Here is my Model 19
with Jordan Border Patrol stocks. 2nd from left.

Another one that you couldn't go wrong would be a set of Grasshorn
stocks like those shown, 3rd from left, on my Model 10 with 2" barrel.

If you are in no big hurry and can wait a while, you wlll be very pleased
with stocks from Craig Spegel. Shown 4th from left on my Colt's Agent.

If you like some color, take a look at Hogue's "blue lava", shown on my
Model 642-1, 5th from left.

On a full size gun, I prefer full size grips. On a nub, I prefer round butt grips.

I use wood on any gun that isn't an X frame.
I like altamontco.com KU style grips, which smith puts on some of their PC guns and the 3-5-7 686 models. I also like the original RB combats, which I have on a 2.5" 686-1.

If you want rubber, you should definitely get the round profile rubber hogues. Their round profile woods have overly long grips, imo.

I put a set of dark wenge wood combats on my 66-2 last night and think they look great.

Wenge is apparently also known as African rosewood.

For looks and comfort in holding my 9mm 637-2 revolver conversions, I like Altamont Combat grips - but 9mm recoil with the old Herrett Shooting Star Conversion grips is less painful, so I usually use them.

Al Hunt, can you provide a link to those conversion grips on the Altamont website? I couldn't find them.

Hogue Bantams... on every round butt I own. As Ralph states in the post below, comfort is key, and the Bantam is the one for me.

Like the Bantams on J-frames a bit thick for "me" on k/L frames..... prefer Spegel Boot Grips!

I sure do miss Kim Ahrend ...
He knew how to make grips fit a normal persons hand .

If you can find Ahrend's Retro Combat or Retro Target on the used market ...they are very nice . My avatar (model 58 - N frame) has Retro Combats in dark red cocobolo .
Next would be Herrett's Stocks , lots to choose from and best of all they have a "Trace Your Hand " and they make stocks to fit you !
Herretts has always called them stocks ... it's same as grips

Hogue wood combat grips.

I agree; it doesn't get much more comfortable than a Hogue rubber grip but the Hogue Hardwoods are good looking and they still feel good.
