Netflix Peaky Blinders

I love the series, but I had to do that too.

I discovered when I went to Britain for the first time back in the mid-1970s that any British allegations of Americans having butchered “proper English” are specious.

Working class British English is much farther from Oxford English that any variations we speak in the US. I have an easier time understanding heavy Irish and Scottish accents ;)

Blinders, not Binders.

And yes, English subtitles are needed.

British movie director/writer Guy Ritchie has spoofed
the working class language in some of
his films by including subtitles as a regular
feature.

TheHistoryGuy.com has a feature on British
pronunciation and explains that Shakespeare
probably couldn't understand Chaucer in
spoken English.

I use closed captions as a matter of course. Subtitles are better, because captions sometimes lag way behind the dialogue.
Peaky Blinders was pretty good though.
