"The Battered *******s of Baseball" is a highly entertaining look at the Portland Mavericks independent "A" league minor league team from the mid 1970s, owned and operated by Bing Russell who is Kurt Russell's dad and was also a 1950-60s character actor. His longest roll was playing sheriff's deputy Clem on Bonanza but Bing played in about every action show in the 50s and 60s. A real student of baseball, he also had a connection to the the great Yankee teams of the 1930s.

Asked if there would ever be a team reunion, one of the players replied "probably not, too many former players are in witness protection" :D

I listen to a couple of podcast that talk about and review movies that are not of the block buster type. One of them mentioned this doc a couple of weeks ago. Sounds entertaining.

On a side note, I have a friend whose dad was a minor league manager for almost 40 years and pitched in the majors at the end of WW2. To hear some of his stories from the 50's, 60's and 70's are very entertaining. A much more colorful time.

Well worth watching

Howdy,
I caught it. I thought it started a little slow but I really enjoyed it and I am glad I saw it through.
Great story.
Thanks
Mike
