If you remember some of my earlier posts, I related how at the first of the year I had a hemorrhage in my right eye that made it impossible for me to focus on a optical sight or front iron sight. I'm a competitive pistol shooter and my first concern after eliminating the possibility that I was having a stroke was that my competitive pistol shooting and shooting in general might be over.

With a new optical sight that had a green dot, and a lot of lead put downrange over last winter and early spring I taught myself to shoot left eyed but right handed.

For many years, I have gone with my Maryland club to participate in the Walter Wise Police Match that is put on above Harrisburg, PA. Last year, before my vision issues, I was not very happy with my performance. The sun wiped out my red dot and the second day I resorted to shooting with iron sights.

But I entered again this year, wanting to see if I had come back from the vision issues. From the Harrisburg club web site, I printed off my scores from last year. The scores for this year were just posted. I had only shot the rimfire events both years, which would each total a possible of 1800 points.

I added up the scores from last year and this year, and discovered that this year I improved over last year by 69 points! I considered just being able to compete at Harrisburg and the Maryland club as victories in themselves, but now I had the proof that my decision to try to shoot cross-dominately and a lot of practice really paid off.

I just put in an order for .22 LR shells for next year.

Keep it up. It can be done! I had terrible astigmatism in my right eye, and back in the 70's and 80's shot left eye right hand in police revolver matches. Finished 2nd one year.
