I've known about Model 53s with a 4" barrel for years, but I've never seen one, not even a photograph. That is until now! At a local gun show a 4" Jet, in its original box, with the extra cylinder was for sale. I worked out a trade + cash and it's now mine!

My supervisor indicated that the cash difference in the purchase was my birthday present. Score! Not going to sleep well tonight…

Very nice, don't see the 4 inch with the extra cylinder very often. Did you luck out even more and get a cleaning kit with the proper swab and docs too? Does the 22LR cylinder have the SN of the revolver on it?

This one has the SN on the 22LR cylinder but without the cleaning kit.

These seem to have been going up in price quite a bit the past year or two. Nice buy.

No, hipower, no cleaning kit in the box. Oddly enough, the extra cylinder does have the gun's serial number on it, but the Jet cylinder doesn 't. This is my first "extra cylinder" Jet and it was a surprise that one cylinder had the number but the standard cylinder did not. Hmmm….

Any comments on the serial number issue is appreciated.

Mark, my 6" gun does not have serial number on cylinder. Mine did not come with the extra cylinder. I think S&W quit doing that when soft fitting ended in 1957. Makes sense to me that the .22LR cylinder would have a serial number because it had to be fitted to the gun.
Congrats on your gun.

I've seen a number of the 22LR cylinders without an SN. My guess has been that those without an SN were ordered from S&W separately from the gun. Those cylinders are pretty hard to find now and expensive when we do find one.

The 6" 53 I have here has a numbered Jet cylinder but the LR cylinder is only marked with an S on the rear face. I can attest to the massive fire ball the gun produces with the old Remington ammo...at night. It's quite a sight.

BTW, the letter mentions RR/WO and a butt swivel, but not the LR cylinder. The 22 LR cylinder works perfectly. It also shipped with TH/TT.
