Hi Folks,

I an a sucker for older Smith and Wesson revolvers and I'll be dogged, another one just showed up. I saw it in the showcase at my LGS and the next thing you know I am sitting here writing this.

It is a nickel 19-3 with the following attributes:

-W/O rear sight
-Standard front sight
-.500 Grooved Target Trigger
-.400 Hammer
-The trigger and hammer are very dark, almost black.

The lack of a RR front sight seems odd to me along with the different with Trigger/Hammer widths. Also, are the grips period correct?

Seem odd to anyone else?

BTY, the serial # is 9k27xx Anyone have a year of manufacture for this Smith.

Thanks for any assistance!

9K27xx (only four digits after the K) points to 1976 for the manufacture date. 9K numbers are spread across three years of production (1976-1978).

The stocks are not correct. In 1976, they would still have the football cut, not the speedloader cut.

The hammer and trigger have been blued and might be replacement items. They certainly are not in their original condition.

The red ramp insert was not universal, so its absence doesn't really mean much.

Jack,

Thanks for your info, it really got me thinking. I bought it to be a shooter anyway so it helped me out in more ways than one.

My 686 did not have W/O rear sight or the correct grips, so I made a swap from the new 19-3. Now my 686 is complete in my eyes and I am a happy camper. Thats it in the first picture.

I still have my old 19-3 that is a base model but factory stock. That is in the second picture.

The new 19-3 has a new look of it's own now. I added some old rogers grips and she is now a shooter. In the third picture.

Something to do on a lazy Saturday afternoon.

Thanks Again.

Most likely Apr/May time frame 1977. Nice score! ;)
