Years ago I bought an AMT .22 Mag. and what ever ammo I used then it worked fine. About 6 months ago I took it to the range and had a large number of malfunctions.
I am thinking about the new .22 mag. M&P any one here have one,
thoughts?

Yes, I have one so far it's been a pretty good shooter need more range time with it. I have all the semiauto 22 mag pistols not the AMT though I heard they were pretty finicky. I think you would like it the one mention about all of them the WMP mag is the easiest to load the others are a bit more particular. My 40 plus years as an electrician have made my hands a little sore and tired and besides 15 rounds is a good amount to shoot at one time when you have 30 rounds even in an AR-15 it seems like is this thing ever gonna run out ! There are a few threads on here you should check out too.

When did you last give the AMT a good cleaning? Are you saying that newer ammo is not good for it?

.22 mag

When I shot if for the first time I had no problems, but I don't remember what brand of ammo I used.
I don't have a lot of .22mag ammo but I have several brands.
I just don't want to shoot up ammo to see what is the best.
What I need to do is strip down the AMT and just slick it up a bit.
I really haven't shot it a lot since I got it, I mostly shot others that I have.

The old AMT's that I've seen were a tad picky on ammo. If shooting new ammo I'd stay with the heavier original type bullets over the newer "lightweight" slugs. Clean it well, oil it, and try with regular 40 grain ammo

Part of the problems with the old AMT pistols is that the slide and frame were cast out of the same SS materials and as a result they had a tendency to gall badly, which caused the slide to not cycle smoothly. (I had a IAI,((successor to AMT)), Javalina long slide in 10mm that it took a bit of trial and error to find the proper lube to get it to run 100%) I found that the AMT/IAI required a high sulfur based lube or specialized lubes to prevent the galling. The old RIG +P Stainless Steel lube (grease) worked perfectly. I also found a silicone based lube from NAPA called Sil-Glyde (part #765-1351) that works extremely well also and it is readily available and it is inexpensive. A tube of Sil-Glyde will last most folks a lifetime.
