New 22A - dryfire question

Picked up a new 22a yesterday at a show. Brought it home, and immediately set to stripping and lubing the gun.

In the process of doing so, it was dryfired a few times ( 4 or 5 maybe ) in getting used to the action and showing it off to some folks. Once I discovered the empty casing S&W provided, it was used for all "dryfires".

I now know that dryfiring a rimfire gun is a no-no, and I did see a little divot on the breech face ( nothing major ). To be safe, I ordered a chamber swage from Midway just to keep handy. Menck Chamber Ironing Tool 22 Rimfire - MidwayUSA



My question is, are 4 or 5 dryfires enough to cause any serious damage to the firing pin? Any small peens or burrs in the breech that could cause FTF or FTE issues should be resolved with the swage tool IIRC. I'm just hoping I've not done any real damage here...

No, you probably didn't do any real damage. I've got a few divots on mine, too. Just do yourself a favor and break it in with premium ammo. And don't dryfire it anymore!!

I plan on using CCI Minimags to start with, I bought 300 for it. And no, I will not be dryfiring any more. I knew better than to do that to start with, but in field stripping it, I was wary of removing the slide with it cocked. Thanks!

Buy a box of #8 wall anchors from Home Depot. They will fit in the mag and feed into the chamber for safe dry fire practice.
