I'm as giddy as can be over this one! A much longed-for 29-2 is mine and I am hoping the experts here can help flesh out the details. (I always learn a lot more about my finds when I post the photos here.)

Here's what I know.... 29-2, serial number N6446XX, 6" barrel (checked and double-checked, measured from end of cylinder to crown), presentation box with tools and papers, barrel pointing left in the box (see photo), been fired but not much. I can't find any flaws in the finish or on the stocks - mint condition from what I can see. Serial number and 6" barrel would put it at 1979, no?

I have been warned against using Hoppe's #9 on nickel guns - what is the best alternative? Since it has been shot already I see no reason not to give it a few outings on the range (can't wait!!)

Thanks!

Wave, you have a very nice 29-2 with all the trimmings. It does look like a 1979 shipped revolver, but you probably know there was variation in the order of shipping dates. Also, it seems like nickel guns come out of order more frequently, perhaps because they were completed in batches. Regardless, 1979 is a reasonable estimate for the shipping date.

Regarding cleaning nickel, I have good success in using CLP for cleaning and then using Renaissance wax. Once buffed a little with a clean, soft cloth, the nickel really shines.

Enjoy your 29-2. You found a real keeper.

That's a real thing of beauty Waveform, and great pics as well. Thanks for sharing, congratulations, and enjoy!

MPro7 is the best cleaning solution I have used. There may be others out there that do a good job, too. There are quite a few on the market and all do ok or better.

That is one beautiful .44!

What a waste, it has not been fired? Guns were built to shoot, pictures painted to collect!

Like I said in the OP, it has been fired but not much based on the pristine condition. It took some time and some Flitz to remove the powder marks on the cylinder face, top strap and forcing cone. Had to get it all cleaned up for pictures. And I intend to shoot it some more I promise!

Wave,

Some forum members prefer Flitz but I use Mother's Mag Wheel Polish on mine (Amazon or Wally World). Hoppe's has an 'Elite' product line of gun cleaner, oil, etc which has no ammonia and is safe for that great nickel finish.

Minty and fresh. I thought you were describing some chewing gum.:)

It's not gum but it sure is good for the smile!

Dam, son....That is pretty. And I'm not a big fan of nickle revolvers. Beautiful for real. Now - go shoot it !!!!. enjoy Mike

PURDY!!! I think I'm giddy for you!! Congratulations on your "most excellent" package. Love the stocks too. Really NICE. Be careful with the Nickel S&W's. They tend to multiply like bunnies! Don't ask me how I know this....;)
(shhhhh Sal! Not a peep!!)
