I remember a friend of my brothers getting a Blackhawk 357 in HS. We went out to a farm and tried to punch holes in old abandon car engine blocks with it just like in the gun magazines.
Very disappointing but a lot of fun!

When I bought my Python in 1965 a friend had a transmisson for I think a 50 something DeSota. We shot it with a factory Win. load and nothing happened but when I used a hard cast hand load it knocked a hole in it. Another friend of mine accidently shot his Red Belly Ford Engine with his .357 using a hard cast hand load and it knocked a hole in it. Larry
We'd get a 357 round to punch through the thin water jacket of the cast iron blocks. But being young and impressionable we were counting on more spectacular penetration results.
Being a kid doesn't change I guess..
Old heavy car fenders, grills and engine parts would slow them up enough that by the time they reached the block they really didn't do much.
Just like kids today,,I guess we wanted to see something happen!
One of my old bosses had a DeSoto. That was like riding in an armored limo. The windows would probably deflect the rounds.
..accidently shot his engine.....
That's a hard one to explain!
