Haven't shot it yet. Some wear and metal shavings coming off from manipulating the crane/cylinder. Already emailed S&W... waiting on a response.

Is this normal?

Thanks in advance.

No, that is not normal. Those areas showing wear are not supposed to be contact points. I have had a 360J for maybe 2 years and it still looks new.

Dear sir,

I bought a 360 J Frame for a song at a local pawn shop. When I took possession of it I did not notice but the front of the cylinder was rubbing against the forcing cone. I told Smith about it and they sent me a label to fetch it back to the factory pdq! No charge!!

Now it has the proper clearance between the two. Seems to be a lot of issues with QC coming from Smith these days.

My two cents worth.

"That is all!" :D

Don't be playing them spinny slappy games with the cylinder.

Agreed, a wrist flip to close the cylinder may look cool on a movie screen but it is NOT the correct way to close the cylinder. I believe that in part the level of damage shown is due to this mishandling.

However, with the exception of the cylinder stop on the frame these are areas that normally wouldn't come into hard contact so in part this damage is due to a revolver that I believe wasn't properly fitted together. I would suggest that you follow up your email with an actual telephone call because S&W has a reputation for being a bit slow to respond to emails alone. I also expect that when they see the damage to your revolver they will want to exchange it for a new one, which means that you should expect to have to go through the process of transferring another revolver into your possession. It also means that if they don't have a 360J in stock you should be thinking of an alternate model that fits your needs.

mine has some finish wear on the frame in that area but no metal peening at all. no noticeable wear on the yolk itself. like others have said time to send it in.

Roger. I assumed it was an issue, which is why I contacted them. Just wanted to verify in here, as this is my first and only revolver. That's from opening and closing the cylinder maybe 30-40 times. I did think it felt kind of rough, but I didn't really have anything to reference against. Been practicing manipulation and dry fire before putting it to work. It was going to ride backup on my vest, so hopefully they can get it taken care of sooner than later. Will call them in the morning.

Thanks all.

ETA: and no, I don't fling/flip this or any of my guns around, but thanks for asking ;)

Gun is on it's way back. I described the issue to S&W cs, and they sent over a return label. Thanks again. I'll update in here if anything of note comes up.

Well, if anyone is interested, I got a call back from S&W today. They said it was "some type of manufacturing error" and that the gun was not repairable. As the 360J is not currently being produced, they are replacing it with another model. Looks like I'll have a lock plug and some grips for sale soon. The whole processed has seemed quick so far, and the guy that contacted me was great. Replacement should be inbound by the end of the week, though I assume the holiday will push things back.

Thanks... I didn't even realize that was a feature in here. I spend most of my time on arf, but the knowledge base on revolvers seemed to have a bit more depth here.

I got an M&P 340. :)

You got the best, IMO. Hope yours is the model w/o the IL. I have 2 of them and wonder what took me so long to take the plunge.

P.S. The 340's steel cylinder lets me use the controllable 110gr Magnum loads. The 340PD's titanium cylinder can't/won't and is subject to damage.
