New 360J - is this normal?

I had a new one a couple of years ago that did almost the same thing. It went back to S&W on their dime and was quickly repaired. Best of luck with yours.

You got the best, IMO. Hope yours is the model w/o the IL. I have 2 of them and wonder what took me so long to take the plunge.

P.S. The 340's steel cylinder lets me use the controllable 110gr Magnum loads. The 340PD's titanium cylinder can't/won't and is subject to damage.

For that and many reasons the M&P 340 is the best J Frame for defense in my opinion. If you are going to choose a 5 shot revolver for CCW, the M&P340 is the one. My review and thoughts:

I know you've already read this, but that is mighty rough. Disappointed in the fit and finish . . .

Haven't shot it yet. Some wear and metal shavings coming off from manipulating the crane/cylinder. Already emailed S&W... waiting on a response.

Is this normal?

Thanks in advance.

Thanks guys. They did offer me a 360PD as well. I went with the M&P340 (no lock) for all the reasons you guys mentioned (and in no small part to HarrishMasher's thread, among other reviews). I got a pretty good deal on the 360J to begin with, so when all is said and done, barring any further issues, I'll be more than happy.

Well, I hate that you had issues with your gun especially since I'm a 360J fan. My 9mm 360J has been a peach for 6 years now. In fact, I should have it back from having Pinnacle fit a Ti .38spl cyl to it in a week or so.

Anyway, it sounds like, in spite of the pain the *** factor, you're coming way out on top in this deal. Looking forward to pics of your new 340 and a range report!

Same Issue on Mine!!!!

Hey all,

I have the same type of issues with mine. I cannot complain too much, bought it for $355 at my local pawn emporium summer before last.

But I noticed, after the fact, that the forcing cone was rubbing on the front of the cylinder. I told CS, even though it was a used weapon, they sent me a label and I sent it back. They repaired in no harm no foul to me.

Then I read this thread and saw how your cylinder was scuffing the frame when you loaded or unloaded it. So I filled out the form yesterday and they created a service ticket. I guess the ball is in their court now.

I will report back later.

I know all would want to hear from the CS on this one. It is a very expensive gun to be having such problems?

"That is all!" :D

Hello all,

As I reported earlier, the back of the cylinder of my 360PD was doing the same thing as the OP's picture showed. I did not think much about it until I looked at mine again. The OP got me to thinking.

Then I reasoned to myself, why should a weapon that costs so much have such shoddy workmanship?

Anyway, Smith got back to me and sent me a FedEx label on their dime to send it back for inspection. No doubt they will probably adjust the cylinder or make the proper repairs.

More to follow. :D

Not "normal" to me, but then again I have no new alloy guns and no guns with that particular finish. From here it looks like sharp edges might have been overlooked prior to finish being applied to gun. The other possibility is that it was not fit correctly before the finish was applied. I'd complain and have it done right!

My Model 360 Back to Smith

No, that is not normal. Those areas showing wear are not supposed to be contact points. I have had a 360J for maybe 2 years and it still looks new.

Hello all,

My Model 360 was sent back to Smith this AM via FedEx on their nickel. More to follow. :D

Well, it took a bit, but my 340 came in back on the 11th. Can't complain overall, and nothing but good things to say about S&W's customer service. Hopefully the issues I had were isolated or have since been addressed. Happy shooting and merry Christmas guys.

Just reporting back. I had said earlier that my 360PD J Frame looked like this friend's picture. Although my gouges were not as deep or pronounced as his picture above. I reported it back to customer service at Smith. They issued me a fedex label. I sent it in just two weeks ago. The fedex person just dropped it off and it had to have a signature.

I open her up. Low and behold, they marked it as "normal wear...needs no repair." So what am I to think of Smith now?

Normal wear? When the back of the cylinder rubs the scandium frame and scars, scuffs a small groove in it?

Is this good workmanship?

Is this good customer service?

Or is this just the season to be covered up and send it out as soon as possible?

I am not sure how to take this from one of the premier and oldest gun makers known for their revolver quality? :o

Thoughts?

I certainly would like to hear them?

Feedback appreciated!!!!
