About a month ago I purchased a .40 Shield (serial number starts with HRY. I was finally able to pick it up on Tuesday after waiting for MD HQL and then HG Registration). During my wait I read up on everything I could find about the .40 Shield, and not all of it was encouraging. I was finally able to get it out to the range today and get 250 rounds through it (Winchester FMJ white box 165 grain). I am happy to report that there were no bulging cases, FTFeed/Fire or any other mishaps. In fact, it shot like a dream and had far less of a kick than I thought it would being so small. Quite manageable in rapid fire with a straight thumb grip (see attached photo: 1 and 2 are rapid fire at 10 yards. 3 is rapid fire at 15 yards 6+1 and magazine change to 7 for a total of 14 per area. 4 and 5 are double tap 15 yards changing between 4 and 5 after each double tap with a single shot to finish each magazine ). The only modification I have made is a NDZ Performance magazine finger extension on smaller magazine. I did notice that front sight needs to cover target (you can see my groups on 1 and 2 are low due to improper sight picture...aka placing target just above front site).
I plan on using federal premium law enforcement hydra-shock JHP 165 grain for self defence. I also plan on replacing sights and any suggestions would be helpful (I seem to shoot better with different colored rear and front sights).
I am looking forward to getting many more rounds through this pint sized powerhouse soon!
