Hello everyone. It's been a while since I've been on a forum. I recently picked up a new 45 shield. My plan was to possibly start carrying it off duty. I admit, I almost had buyers remorse shortly after I bought it because I made the mistake of reading complaints about it before actually shooting it for myself. Anyway, I finally had the opportunity to shoot it today and I was impressed. For a light weight, single stack, polymer 45 the recoil was mild. It was accurate, reliable, and a joy to shoot.

Forums (and this is one of the best) aren't a bad resource to help make a purchase decision...of course, once you've already bought it, the best thing to do is shoot and decide for yourself how you like it. ;)

This forum is a great resource after purchase, too, if you do have problems, or questions, or want opinions on accessories. Congratulations, and enjoy your new gun!

I seen mostly all raves and compliments about the 45 Shield... What complaints? I own own two 45 Shields which one is reg and the other is the Performance Center. Both have been flawless... What's there to complain about?

Congrats on your purchase!

There have been a few issues with the RSA, and the followers. They seem to be straightened out now (which, BTW, S&W sent me all new followers and a RSA for free, upon request.) Generally, though, the Shield 45 has been a very reliable pistol.

Thank you. There were some complaints about RSA's and mag drop issues that were fixed with new mag followers. From what I gathered, even with the old followers the issue wasn't wide spread. The issue was blown out of proportion on a different form. I momentarily let that spook me about my purchase. It's starting becoming my favorite handgun.

I just p/u a 9MM Shield and range times have been fun. Very accurate and I purchased a new 8 round mag for $20 @ a local gunshow. As far as the trigger complaints mine was a bit heavy but nothing I plan on changing b/c it will be used for a house and sometimes ccw gun.

Two Shield 45's and two Shield 9mm's.....no complaints.

......cept my kid took one of my 9's and I dont get to shoot it much!

I'm not real familiar with their modern stuff but I think S&W hit a home-run with the Shield .45 more than any recent product. I easily could do without my Shield 9mm. It never gets used anymore, but I do like my Shield .45, which has entirely replaced it. The .45 has been super accurate, easy to shoot, no problems with magazine springs, and reliable with any ammunition I've used in it. Mine has just been great. I think you will find yours to be the same over the next few trips to the range. :)

I've got my second Shield .45, and find it to be the perfect CCW firearm. It carries as many rounds as a 1911 with a standard 7 rd mag, shoots as softly as the Beretta PX4, is extremely accurate, is reliable as sunrise, and is small enough to tuck away just about anywhere. I find the trigger to be fine as is, and the sights are better since I blacked out the white dots. I may change the front sight to a fiber optic. In my opinion, the only downside I've found is mag prices. I think $35 is a bit steep, but eBay has them for $25, so problem solved. Holsters are easy to come by, mine rides in Alien Gear, either an IWB Cloak Tuck 3.0 or OWB Cloak Slide, although a Glock Sport holster, Remora, DeSantis Cozy Partner have all worked just fine. Good luck with your Shield, and good shooting.

I bought the shield 45 on 11/21/17. The night sights didn't work, Got ahold of S&W. They received it 12/4/17 for warranty replacement of the night sights. I just got it back the 1/9/18. So for the first time shooting it I put 15 rounds through it. It was worth the wait. You have to shoot the 45 to see for yourself what everybody is saying is true. It does have a mild recoil. One of the nicest 45's I've shot.

The trigger gets much better. I have over 8,000 (maybe 9,000 by now) thru my 9 and pull is now down around 6 with no grit, nice break. Never had any issues with function or reliability. Extremely accurate for a shorty.

Congrats on your new Shield .45 ACP. I have had mine for about 9 months and love it, no issues at all. When I received the gun the guide rod was bent a little bit. Called S&W CS and they sent out a new one right away.

The only major issue was with the magazine followers in the early days. S&W fixed that. The most complaints here are about the slow rebate process.

I had my hands on a Shield 45 today whine in Cabelas'. I own a Shield in 9mm and the 45 version did not feel that much different. The guy behind the counter said before Christmas they were on sale for somewhere in the $350 range and a $75.00 Cabelas' card. He said to watch as they will come on sale again.
