With some assistance from a gracious forum member I bought a "NIB" 845 Model of 1998.
I haven't had a chance to shoot it yet, but hope to soon. It looks like it had been fired & handled a bit, but still looks pretty nice. I am probably going to replace the grip with Hogues.
It was reported as residing in a display case for the last 9 years or so.
Please forgive if the photos do not link correctly.

Give the factory grips a try first, I've found I like them. Besides, it's kind of fun having this hot rod dressed up in generic Smith garb. Mine lacks the "845 Model of 1998" ledgend though.

Nope that 845 was never fired but it did have a lot of handling. I saw it every time I went into the gun shop that had it. It was one of the oldest guns in their inventory. You made them very happy when you purchased it.

Sounds like a win/win situation, both seller and buyer is happy. That is a very nice pistol. I would also vote for leaving the original Smith & Wesson grips in place.

I just checked the Hogue web site and they do not list an 845 grip! A 945, yes, but no 845 and I do not think they are interchangeable - hopefully I'm incorrect.
You will enjoy your new acquisition!! I sure like mine!!!!!!

That same Hogue grip fits the 1006 too. I really like the Hogue I put on mine, it's stickier than the stock grip. My 845 shoots great with all the loads I put through it and feels great in the hand. My old fave .45 was a stainless Gold Cup, now it's the 845.

Congrats on getting a great S&W!

I finally got a chance to shoot it today. It shoots better than I can.

The stock grips are defintely coming off.
