I was finally able to get out and shoot my 9c today. It is ejecting brass straight into my face.
I was shooting Winchester white box.
Has anyone else here had this issue?
Anyone have a solution?

I bought my compact about 4 years ago. I do remember it being really, really tight to start with a stiff recoil spring-- I actually locked the slide back for a while while stored. I did not have any brass to the face, but I did have one stovepipe in the first 100 rounds. Since then (maybe 2000 rounds) it has been reliable and run fine, with a better ejection pattern than my gen 3 glock.
Maybe try a little heavier bullet to break it in?...
Good luck.

my wife had this issue with both her and my shield, but not with my 40c. i had no issue with any of the 3. i paid a little bit closer attention to her grip and noticed that she did not have the gun seated in her hand properly. her thumb was nearly halfway down the grip as opposed to all the way up by the slide. this caused her to be"limp wristing". as soon as she corrected, all empties ejected to the right as they are supposed to.

Thanks for the responses. I know it is not my grip or limp wristing. The fundamentals of my form are solid. We can rule that one out.

post a picture of your extractor if you can, or see if there are any burrs on it

my 9c is still in its break-in period but has had at least 5 different ammo brands (all 115 grain practice rounds) ran thru and i havent had any shells come back at me or any FTE either. I havent used the WWB in it yet but did pick up a box to try soon (from what i've read that ammo has been fine in the MP line though).
So with my admitted limited 9c experience i'd venture a guess that ammo isnt 'normally' the trouble when one of the compacts out there has an issue ejecting

Try shooting stronger ammo (NATO spec, or some self defense rounds, +P etc). If shooting stronger ammo causes the casing to just hit you harder, then it may be a problem with the extractor and I would contact S&W. Otherwise, it's probably weak ammo combined with a strong new spring and just needs to be broken in.

Your experience is not unusual.

Aside from being annoying, it can create a flinch.

Many of the plastic S&Ws I've shot have displayed this fault.

One gentleman told me he thought it was a design feature to facilitate ambidextrous shooting.

I think it's a design/qc problem.

A good gunsmith can fix the problem, or you can send it back to S&W.

It does need to be fixed.

Having a gunsmith do the work is cheaper than shooting hundreds of rounds in the hope it will fix itself.

Just my opinion, of course.

Over 5k rounds through my 9c, and not one problem, ever. And I've shot evvvvveryything imaginable.

Not a design flaw.

Disassemble your gun. Put a case under the extractor see how well its seated in the extractor. Also try cleaning the area to see if that clears it up.

Out of 360 rds on my new MP9C I have had about 3 or 4 rounds come back at me

Shot mine first time yesterday got hit on the head for the first 2 mags then no problem. This gun is now my favorite passing my Sig P938. The trigger is tough to get used to. Since it will be a carry gun I won't modify it I'll just get it "fixed".

I had the same happen to me. Federal WB 115 gr.
I switched to another ammo and the problem solved!
