Picked up my latest K-22 O.D. today. Serial # 658,9XX with Call gold bead front sight. A call to Roy Jinks revealed that this would have been a special order. Will letter this one.

Very nice OD! I'm guessing that at least part of the special order was for the gold bead, as most of the ODs above S/N 635000 (and maybe a few below) had the Call "brilliant" bead as the standard front sight. I think "brilliant" means stainless.

yes the special order would have been for the gold bead, sorry I did not make that clearer

Dang it, I am going to have to get a drool shield for my keyboard! Very nice. You guy's are going to cost me some more loot, I have 1947 ,1957 and a 1977 vintage K-22's,I guess I am going to have to find an Outdoorsman now.

thanks to all, I confess I'm hooked on these, this is my 4th.

Hello ussokc
That's a Beauty. I came across one about Four Years ago. Mine shipped in 1936 and is one of the Nicest ones that I own as far as quality and pride and workmanship goes, we will never see any more come out of S&W Like these...Never...

I know what you mean and feel your pain, as the K-22 OD's in my heard continue to multiply:D, while the cash in my account seems to disappear.

That is a very nice OD.

Talking about the Call gold bead front sight, here is a bit of history
about him. He started working for the factory in 1882, and celebrated
his 25th anniversary with S&W in 1907. Joe Wesson had this gun
made up for him, and presented it to him in a special ceremony. The
left rear corner of the frame has his monogram - its 3 C's, wrapped
around each other, for Charles C Call .

This next picture is a close-up of the end of the barrel, showing the
anniversary date .

Charlie worked for S&W for 64 years, which goes up to 1946. Its not
clear if he retired, or simply died !

Regards, Mike Priwer

mike, some great information there, the thing that caught my attention, apart from that gorgeous gun, was that he worked for S&W for 64 years! Makes you wonder at what age he began.
